I’m here to tell you he knows a heckuva lot! As a recent convert to the sounds of Steve Hammond, I was unfamiliar with Black Ale Sinners, his very first country band from his Lawrence, KS days back in the early 2000s, his time in various honky tonk bands in New Mexico, the 6 (or is it 8?) country albums he’s recorded in his 30+ album catalog or his Honky Tonk Record Club 7” series (from which several songs are featured here).

Sure, Steve excels at the full spectrum of what can broadly be defined as “rock” music (if you haven’t, check out his 2021 album A Perfect Half-Life it’s a winner!) and has impeccable credentials as a producer, but what does he know about playing country? "When I found out Steve Hammond was making a honky tonk record, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Vinyl purchase also comes with download of 4 bonus/b-side cover songs originally by George Jones, Johnny Paycheck, Reno & Smiley and Frank Black!

The “Expensive Skin Inn” owner is an avid fan of music and loves to rock some of the older classics such as Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, Link Wray and The Who. Matt A - People notice his tattoos but people love his taste in vinyl. The “Piper’s Pub” owner is always good for a good snack such as Long John’s donuts! He has a nice collection of some of the classics like J Geils, Steve Miller Band but also has stumped other members with offerings such as Pat Boone and The Edgar Winter Group (WHO?!). Tommy - Tommy is the king of “oddball” offerings. Bill is also known for his more eclectic pieces of vinyl in his collection, he’s been known to stump the group once or twice! The Catty Shack has been known to rock a time or two and we wouldn’t have it any other way!īill - Affectionately known as “Billy Boy” to us, Bill is a Bowie fanatic (who isn’t?) and spins his vinyl in the “Blue Star Bar” (He’s a Cowboys fan but we don’t hold that against him). He is the official note taker and keeps pristine notes of all of our get togethers. Timmy is also a co-founder of Voodoo Vinyl Club with Matt. Timmy - The “Catty Shack” owner is a major Springsteen fan (and with good reason). The “Tiki Lounge” is where he spins his vinyl and what happens at the Tiki Lounge, stays at the Tiki Lounge! You’ll often find him spinning those hair metal tunes from bands like Motley Crew, Poison, Ratt, etc. Matt - A self proclaimed “child of the 80s hair metal scene”, Matt is a co-founder of the Voodoo Vinyl Club. Since 2015, we’ve been spinning records once a month and we’re not slowing down anytime soon! We’re a group of family and friends who get together once a month and listen to some great tunes on vinyl.
